MONTREAL ON FIRE was born in 2006 in the University of Quebec in Montreal (Canada). Two young scientists met at night to create a music filled with diverse sounds and minimalist soundscapes. Completed with two members by the end of 2007, the band composed and recorded their first album « Decline & Fall » in the house which they occupied in the country-side of Toulouse. The Musicians go forth into the punk/hardcore scene, but by playing together, they create a more fragile and melancholy music. Their first opus, somewhere in between noise- pop and shoegaze was released in March 2009 on LACRYMAL RECORDS label. The band leaves for the european roads to promote their album, from the legendary Germans squat venues to the prestigious stage of The BIKINI in April 2010, sharing the bill with bands such as THEE SILVER Mt ZION, MONO, POCAHAUNTED, DATURAH or SUN ARAW.. In the meantime, two EPs see the light, unveiling the first Quebecois demos and a compilation of an Electro Remix of « Decline & Fall » , reflecting the eclectic personalities of the four members.
One year after, the band comes out of the studio with a second full-length, composed of ten titles exploring a new writing process. Spinning off the depth of down tempo into powerful mesmerizing melodies, they release overflowing energy with concise and powerful songs while conserving their dream-like personality, drowned by reverb and hindsight lyrics. Oscillating between contemplative thinkings, lost dreams, and thirst of life, MONTREAL ON FIRE can be pegged as dreampop, finding with its inner rhythm, its energy with which to survive, bursting out, bringing out these emotions. This recording brought forward with fully grown songwriting and the passion of deep atmospheres, adding layers of fog and still be catchy and melodic.

MONTREAL ON FIRE est né en 2006 dans les laboratoires de l’Université du Quebec à Montréal (Canada). Deux jeunes scientifiques se retrouvent alors la nuit pour produire une musique faite de diverses captations sonores. Complétés par deux nouveaux membres fin 2007, le groupe écrit et enregistre son premier album « Decline & Fall » dans la maison qu’ils occupent dans la campagne toulousaine. Musiciens issus de la scène punk/hardcore, ils développent ensemble une musique fragile et mélancolique, en marge de leurs précédentes formations. Leur premier opus entre noise-pop et shoegaze sort en mars 2009 sur le label LACRYMAL RECORDS. Le groupe part défendre son album sur les routes d’Europe, des légendaires squats allemands jusqu’à la scène du BIKINI en avril 2010, partageant l’affiche avec des groupes tel que THEE SILVER Mt ZION, MONO, POCAHAUNTED, DATURAH ou SUN ARAW. Entre temps, 2 EPs voient le jour, dévoilant les premières démos québécoises ainsi qu’une compilation de remix électro de « Decline & Fall », reflets de la personnalité éclectique des 4 garçons.
Un an plus tard, le groupe sort de studio avec un second album composé de 10 titres, explorant une nouvelle écriture. Le combo parvient à transposer la profondeur du down-tempo des précédentes productions en puissance mélodique, tout en exacerbant leur personnalité onirique; MONTREAL ON FIRE libère son surplus d’énergie dans des morceaux concis et puissants, noyés de reverb et habillés de textes introspectifs oscillant entre pensée contemplatives, espoir perdu et soif de vivre. MONTREAL ON FIRE est un renouvellement permanent qui cette fois-ci révèle un sens de l’écriture largement muri et une passion obstinée pour les atmosphères profondes. Ce nouvel Opus expose sans retenue cette énergie de survie, qui finalement explose et met en exergue toute la puissance émotionnelle du quatuor.
